BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION:

A.

ACCEPTING THE FY 2010 THE COMMUNITY-DEFINED SOLUTIONS TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN PROGRAM GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $675,000; AND

B.

AUTHORIZING THE SHERIFF OR SHERIFF’S DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS IN CONNECTION WITH THE GRANT INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO AGREEMENTS, AMENDMENTS, AND GRANT ASSURANCES.

 
 

    RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

    WHEREAS, the Community-Defined Solutions to Violence Against Women Program requires criminal justice agencies to collaborate among themselves and in meaningful partnership with nonprofit, nongovernmental sexual assault and domestic violence programs to ensure that victim safety is a paramount consideration in the development of any strategy to address theses crimes; and

    WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office, on behalf of the County of San Mateo, successfully applied for and has been awarded the FY 2010 The Community Defined-Solutions to Violence Against Women Program grant, in the amount of $675,000 over a two year period commencing October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2012; and

    WHEREAS, the grant award will be used to create the San Mateo County Domestic Violence Firearms Compliance and Legal Advocacy (FCLA) Program; and

 

    WHEREAS, the FCLA Program will be a collaboration between the Sheriff’s Office, CORA, Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal) and Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County to ensure victim safety and offender accountability through firearms compliance and providing legal advocacy services to victims in the County; and

    WHEREAS, grant funding will be applied towards: 1) one unclassified Deputy Sheriff position; 2) victim-centered services provided by CORA; 3) education on restraining order action process by BayLegal; and 4) coordination of pro bono representation for victims provided by Legal Aid.

    NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the:

Board of Supervisors, on behalf of the County of San Mateo, hereby accepts the FY 2010 The Community-Defined Solutions to Violence Against Women Program award in the amount of $675,000; and

B.

Sheriff or Sheriff’s designee is hereby authorized and directed to execute all necessary documents in connection with this grant, including but not limited to, agreements, amendments, and grant assurances.
