LOUIS JOHN VELLA DAY

In celebration of his appointment as

Honorary Consul of Malta

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, a grand reception honoring the appointment of Honorary Consul of Malta LOUIS JOHN VELLA is being held in the City of Burlingame, California, on October 2, 2010; and

   

WHEREAS, LOUIS JOHN VELLA, a native of Malta, in 1980 settled in Redwood City with his family, and has been committed to public service and community work for over two decades in both his native homeland of Malta and his adopted home of San Mateo County; and

   

WHEREAS, LOUIS JOHN VELLA is one of San Mateo County’s most prominent and respected civic leaders, who has served our community as the Redwood City Fire Marshal and Redwood City Fire Department Administrative Chief, member and current president of the Mid-Peninsula Water District Board of Directors, member of the Bay Area Water Supply & Conservation Agency (BAWSCA) Board of Directors, current president of the Belmont Heights Civic Improvement Association, member of the Knights of Columbus, an active lector at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and honorary and active member of the Maltese American Social Club of San Francisco; and

   

WHEREAS, LOUIS JOHN VELLA has worked tirelessly over the years to create and support institutions that assist the Maltese people in both Malta and San Mateo County, including the Maltese Cross Foundation of California which supports the Vella-Dankwerth Scholarship fund for Maltese-American youth; Id-Dar tal-Kleru, an assisted living facility in Malta for retired clergy; and Id-Dar tal-Providenza, a home in Malta for the mentally disabled.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates October 2, 2010 as LOUIS JOHN VELLA DAY in celebration of his appointment as Honorary Consul of Malta for Northern California and the State of Nevada, and for his extraordinary public service, community leadership and many contributions to the County of San Mateo.
