BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION:

A.

ACCEPTING THE SOLVING COLD CASES WITH DNA GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $217,178; AND

B.

AUTHORIZING THE SHERIFF OR SHERIFF’S DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS IN CONNECTION WITH THE GRANT INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO AGREEMENTS, AMENDMENTS, AND GRANT ASSURANCES.

 
 

    RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

    WHEREAS, the Solving Cold Cases with DNA grant, through the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice, offers assistance to States and units of local government to identify, review, and investigate “violent crime cold cases” that have the potential to be solved using DNA analysis and to locate and analyze biological evidence associated with these cases; and

    WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office, on behalf of the County of San Mateo, successfully applied for and has been awarded the FY 2010 Solving Cold Cases with DNA grant, in the amount of $217,178 over a period of 18 months, commencing October 1, 2010 to March 31, 2012; and

    WHEREAS, the awarded funding will allow the Sheriff’s Office Forensic Laboratory the opportunity to conduct further testing on cold case DNA evidence and identify suspects of violent crime cases for prosecution; and

    WHEREAS, grant funding will be applied towards analyst’s overtime, purchasing laboratory equipment, chemicals and supplies, upgrading computer equipment and software, and hiring personnel to support the Forensic Biology Section of the Laboratory.

    NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the:

A.

Board of Supervisors, on behalf of the County of San Mateo, hereby accepts the Solving Cold Cases with DNA grant award in the amount of $217,178; and

B.

Sheriff or Sheriff’s designee is hereby authorized and directed to execute all necessary documents in connection with this grant, including but not limited to, agreements, amendments, and grant assurances.
