RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING

 

LARRY R. AIKINS

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Larry R. Aikins has served as a Commissioner for the Port of Redwood City for 15 years serving three consecutive terms; and

   

WHEREAS, during his successful 15 year tenure, Mr. Aikins served as Port Chairman three times and his leadership helped lead to the Port obtaining millions of dollars in federal funding to improve and maintain the Redwood City navigation channel; and

   

WHEREAS, Larry Aikins served as an integral member of the Port’s Finance Committee where his work contributed to the Port’s successful financial performance which was recognized by the US Maritime Administration; and

   

WHEREAS, Larry Aikins has supported major improvements to the Redwood City Marina and the public launch boat ramp along with the construction of a new dry boat storage facility, all of which provide attractive and convenient recreational boating facilities for the community; and

   

WHEREAS, during Larry Aikins’ tenure on the Port Commission, the Port cargo tonnage grew steadily from 540,000 tons in 1995 to almost 2 million tons in 2005, and during that time the Port has become a center for the supply of building materials to Northern California.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby congratulate Larry R. Aikins on his service to the Port of Redwood City, and extends its best wishes to him in the coming years.
