RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING

 

CHARLES MARSALA

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Charles Marsala served as Assistant Chair of the Atherton Arts Committee and was a member of the Atherton Park and Recreation Commission from 1999 through 2002; and

   

WHEREAS, Charles Marsala was elected to the Atherton Town Council in 2002 and has served for the past eight years including serving as Mayor of Atherton in 2006; and

   

WHEREAS, during his tenure on the Town Council Mr. Marsala was the first Council Member to become involved with the California League of Cities and worked to pass Proposition 1A in 2004 along with serving on the San Mateo County Library Joint Powers Authority to help plan the Atherton library expansion; and

   

WHEREAS, while he was Mayor, Charles Marsala worked with the Sequoia School District and Atherton residents in the construction of the Menlo-Atherton Performing Arts Center in addition to creating the Environmental Programs committee and signing the Mayor’s Climate Protection agreement making Atherton a leader in addressing climate change; and

   

WHEREAS, outside of his work on the Atherton Town Council, Mr. Marsala served on the boards of the Peninsula Volunteers and the HEART of Silicon Valley, represented the Atherton Town Council on the Holbrook-Palmer Foundation, and supported the philanthropic programs of Atherton residents such as the Atherton Horse Show and Music at Menlo.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby congratulate Charles Marsala on his service to the Atherton Town Council, and extends its best wishes to him in the coming years.
