ELAINE AZZOPARDI

WHEREAS, ELAINE AZZOPARDI has been employed with the San Mateo County Human Services Agency (HSA) Children and Family Services (CFS) Division for 28 years, working in many capacities and taking on many challenging assignments, including working on every level of the CFS portion of the successful HSA accreditation process; and

WHEREAS, in 2006 as an Human Services Manager (HSM) I, ELAINE AZZOPARDI took on the challenge of re-energizing the San Mateo County Children and Family Services parenting program by introducing the evidenced-based Strengthening Families Parent Education Program, in collaboration with Canada College, bringing needed funding, experts in Early Childhood Education and an opportunity for clients to earn college credits into the program; and

WHEREAS, on two occasions, ELAINE AZZOPARDI worked out of class; first, in 2007 when she began a new position as a Human Services Manager II (Regional Manager) while maintaining her duties as an HSM I (Policy Manager); and second, in 2009 when she again maintained her original work responsibilities in addition to taking on new duties, including fulfilling the role of On-Call Manager on a rotational basis; and

WHEREAS, ELAINE AZZOPARDI has been dedicated to providing supportive coaching and mentoring to her staff and others, utilizing strength-based direction that allows for each individual’s success and growth, as well as voluntarily taking on projects to ensure the Agency maintains its focus on continuing to cultivate best practices; and

WHEREAS, ELAINE AZZOPARDI has worked as a Resource Parent Trainer for potential foster and adoptive parents, conducting three 18-hours evening and weekend sessions a year, and has strengthened the program by acting as an advocate and friend to the foster parent community,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby extends its congratulations and commends ELAINE AZZOPARDI for being selected as the Women In County Government’s 2010 Public Service – The Extra Mile Award winner.
