RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING

JOSE CEJA

Upon Receiving the

2010 Erich Jenkins Memorial

Youth Advocate of the Year Scholarship

WHEREAS, JOSE CEJA has received the 2010 Erich Jenkins Memorial Youth Advocate of the Year Scholarship, presented by the California Youth Advocacy Network (CYAN) and the Erich Jenkins Change A Life Foundation, annually recognizing high school students for their accomplishments and leadership in anti-tobacco efforts; and

  
     
 

WHEREAS, JOSE CEJA has been a member of the San Mateo County Youth Commission and the Peninsula Partnership Leadership Council, has been involved in various Youth Leadership Institute programs, and is a member of YO!Mateo, the San Mateo County Friday Night Live (FNL) Youth Coalition; and

 
     
 

WHEREAS, JOSE CEJA has worked actively throughout the Peninsula to increase awareness among youth and adults about the dangers of tobacco use, conducted action research, advocated to elected officials, organized a youth-led press conference on retail access to tobacco, and has in the last year been launching a new tobacco policy campaign that aims to increase access to smoke-free apartments; and

  
 

 
 

WHEREAS, JOSE CEJA has been an outstanding leader in the campaign against tobacco over the last four years and has received the prestigious honor of being recognized as the only youth in the state of California granted this award and distinction for the year 2010;

  
     
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates JOSE CEJA upon receiving the 2010 Erich Jenkins Memorial Youth Advocate of the Year Scholarship, presented by the California Youth Advocacy Network. The Board hereby expresses its gratitude and extends to Jose sincere wishes for continued success and excellence in all future endeavors.
