RESOLUTION HONORING AND RECOGNIZING | ||||
THE 75th ANNIVERSARY OF FEDERAL TITLE V MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH SERVICES | ||||

WHEREAS, the year 2010 marks the 75th anniversary of Title V, the Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant, which supports Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) programs in San Mateo County; and | ||||
WHEREAS, these programs include the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP), the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Program, the Adolescent Family Life Program, and the Prenatal Advantage/Black Infant Health Program; and | ||||
WHEREAS, CPSP ensures that Medi-Cal-eligible women receive comprehensive maternity services, including prenatal care, health education, nutrition services, and psychosocial support; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the SIDS program provides public health nursing support to families dealing with the death of an infant and thought to be SIDS, and also educates parents, families, and child care providers on how to reduce the risk of SIDS; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the Adolescent Family Life Program provides intensive home-based case management services for pregnant and parenting teens, which results in improvements in birth outcomes, educational attainment and mental health; and | ||||
WHEREAS, the Prenatal Advantage/Black Infant Health Program provides prenatal and postpartum education and support, case management services, and has resulted in a dramatic decrease in African American infant mortality in the county over the last 18 years; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Title V continues to provide base support for MCAH services and the public health functions of assessment, policy development and assurance for the MCAH population; | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby honors and recognizes THE 75th ANNIVERSARY OF FEDERAL TITLE V, MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH SERVICES and, further, commends those who are working to improve the health of mothers, fathers, children and teens in the county and encourages others to join in this effort. | ||||
