RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution authorizing the Chief Elections Officer to render specified election services for the Brisbane School District in conjunction with a special election to be held Tuesday, March 8, 2011

BACKGROUND:
|
Pursuant to Section 10002 of the Elections Code, the governing body of any city or district may request the Board of Supervisors of the County to permit the County Elections Official to render specified services to the city or district relating to the conduct of an election. Subject to the approval of the Board of Supervisors, these services shall be performed by the Chief Elections Officer.

DISCUSSION:
|
In accordance with state law, a resolution was filed by the Brisbane School District requesting the Chief Elections Officer to perform specified election services in conjunction with a special election to be held on March 8, 2011. The attached resolution authorizes the Chief Elections Officer to render specified election services for the Brisbane School District in relation to that election.
County Counsel has reviewed and approved the Resolution as to form.
Approval of this resolution contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 of a Collaborative Community. Elections are an integral part of our social and civic fiber and our democratic traditions. The diverse population of this school district, its governing board, proponents and opponents of the measure, and the Elections division will participate as collaborative stakeholders to facilitate a public debate on the issue at hand and determine a course for the future. The Elections division will support this collective decision-making process by conducting a fair and impartial election to establish the will of the voters and report the outcome of the election in an open and transparent manner.

FISCAL IMPACT:

All costs for election services will be reimbursed by the Brisbane School District. Therefore, there is no fiscal impact of approving this resolution.
