COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 
NANCY CALL TORRES
2011 San Mateo County Arts Educator of the Year

for Visual Arts

WHEREAS, NANCY CALL TORRES has been active in the arts for over 30 years and is a very gifted and generous artist and supporter of the arts; and

   
 

WHEREAS, NANCY CALL TORRES in 1995 started the “Summer Arts Camp: Art Rules!” teaching oil painting, crafts, and theater to thousands of bay area children; and

   
 

WHEREAS, in 2005, NANCY CALL TORRES founded “Art Attack!” a local studio that offers fine arts instruction for children, teens and adults; and

   
 

WHEREAS, NANCY CALL TORRES has inspired young adults to follow their artistic dreams and has been directly responsible for helping several young students pursue their fine art degrees and providing employment for them during the summers; and

   
 

WHEREAS, NANCY CALL TORRES has created the opportunity for local students to participate as exhibiting artists, to do plein air painting, and performance art at such events as Burlingame’s Art in the Park and Art & Jazz on the Avenue; and

   
 

WHEREAS, NANCY CALL TORRES regularly facilitates student art exhibits at numerous venues and facilitated the creation of public art done by elementary, middle school and high school art students and offers a mentorship program for high school students in Arts Education; and

   
 

WHEREAS, Art Attack! was voted “Best Art Class” in Bay Area Parent Magazine’s “2010 Family Favorite, Best of the Best,”

 
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends NANCY CALL TORRES as the San Mateo County Arts Educator of the Year for Visual Arts.
