THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 

BETSY HALABY

2011 San Mateo County Arts Educator of the Year

for Arts Education Development

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

WHEREAS, BETSY HALABY is the Program Director for Art in Action and has been providing arts education for 23 years in San Mateo County; and

   
 

WHEREAS, BETSY HALABY oversees the implementation of the Art in Action art education program for schools and the training of teachers and parent volunteers; and

   
 

WHEREAS, since joining Art in Action in 1987, BETSY HALABY has trained more than 10,000 teachers and parent volunteers to teach art to K-8th grade school children in San Mateo County schools, which provides a high quality art program to more than 22, 000 local students each year; and

   
 

WHEREAS, BETSY HALABY assists the Art in Action schools with their annual spring art shows and supervises the annual Art in Action Summer Art School; and

   
 

WHEREAS, BETSY HALABY coordinates with 45 schools and 700 students participating in the Summer Art School to display their best art in seven public libraries in San Mateo County; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the Marketing Director for Art in Action, Mr. Torben Gronning, calls BETSY HALABY a ‘living legend” among San Mateo County teachers and parent volunteers, many of whom ascribe their teaching success to her outstanding, knowledgeable, and friendly teaching of art history, art concepts and art projects in engaging hands-on workshops at Art in Action in Menlo Park and in schools in San Mateo County,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends BETSY HALABY as the San Mateo County Arts Educator of the Year for Arts Education Development.
