SUBJECT:

Employee of the Month for March 2011

RECOMMENDATION:

Honor Matthew Chidester as Employee of the Month for March 2011 and authorize the President of the Board to sign the commendation.

BACKGROUND:

The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.

Our Employee of the Month for March 2011 is Matthew Chidester, a Real Property Agent II of the Real Property Division in the County Manager’s Office.

DISCUSSION:

Matthew has been employed with the County for over seven years. Matthew began his career working in the County Airports and transferred into the Real Property Division in 2005. His experience with County Airports was invaluable to the Real Property Division, as it enabled him to make a swift and productive transition. Matthew quickly absorbed vast amounts of information upon his arrival in Real Property. He called on his extensive computer background to streamline existing procedures and find new and creative ways to take advantage of technology to raise the level of professionalism of the unit.

Matthews delivers exemplary customer service to County departments, property owners and residents. Matthew manages the County’s telecommunications site lease program and negotiates win-win solutions between the County and the vendors who do business in County owned buildings. Matthew facilitates solutions between tenants and landlords and he assists County Counsel in the resolution of complex real property matters as well as works with the Commission on Disabilities to ensure accessibility. He also serves as a Notary Public on behalf of the County to expedite the acknowledgment and recordation of a myriad of real estate transactions and other agreements.

Matthew is also dedicated to personal growth and career development. Two years ago he earned his associates degree from the College of San Mateo and in the Spring will graduate with a degree in business from the Hawaii Pacific University. Matthew is also participating in the County’s Management Development Program.

Matthew is admired for his work ethic, his professionalism, positive attitude, and for his commitment to lifelong learning. Matthew cares deeply about our community and the future of San Mateo County.

Approval of the Employee of the Month contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of Prosperous Community by recognizing employees that foster innovation and excellence in the services provided.

Our County is fortunate to have Matthew Chidester as one of its outstanding employees.
