    COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

    RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

    HANNAH HAMLEY

    ***************************************

    WHEREAS, HANNAH HAMLEY has been selected as the recipient of a 2011 Sequoia Award as an “Outstanding Student” for her years of service and contributions to the community; and

 

    WHEREAS, HANNAH HAMLEY has been a stand out volunteer for Project READ and its Kids in Partnership (KIP) Program, and has worked hard one-on-one with a young boy to help him progress in reading, writing and fluency; and

 

    WHEREAS, HANNAH HAMLEY has been recognized by Project READ being named KIP Tutor of the Year and having been awarded the organization’s highest recognition, the Spirit of Project READ Award; and

 

    WHEREAS, HANNAH HAMLEY has dedicated hundreds of hours to Camp Okizu, a camp for children diagnosed with cancer and their siblings, and has been volunteering since attending Camp Okizu for several years with her sister who survived brain cancer; and

 

    WHEREAS, HANNAH HAMLEY joined with her best friend and others to form the student group Gang Prevention Association, in response to the senseless murder of her friend Matthew Johnson, to educate younger students about the dangers of gang involvement and to teach how to avoid gang recruitment; and

 

    WHEREAS, HANNAH HAMLEY, through her involvement and community service with various organizations, has dedicated herself to making Redwood City a better place to live for all its residents;

 

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby honors and commends HANNAH HAMLEY upon being named the 201I Sequoia Award “Outstanding Student,” and thanks her for continuing service to the community.
