THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

    COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

    RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

    CLAIRE TWEEDY

    ***************************************

    WHEREAS, CLAIRE TWEEDY has been selected as the recipient of a 2011 Sequoia Award as an “Outstanding Student” for her years of service and contributions to the community; and

 

    WHEREAS, CLAIRE TWEEDY has been a volunteer since the age of 4, when her mother brought her to an AIDS clinic in San Francisco, and she continued volunteering hundreds of hours to help women with AIDS and their children; and

 

    WHEREAS, CLAIRE TWEEDY’s passion for volunteering has revolved around children, such as coaching Little League, volunteering at HOPE for Kids, and organizing collections for Second Harvest Food Bank and the Goodwill through Adelante School and Sequoia High School; and

 

    WHEREAS, CLAIRE TWEEDY was involved with the group Students Against Human Trafficking and also volunteered a significant amount of hours to Operation Care and Comfort to support troops in Iraq and Afghanistan; and

 

    WHEREAS, CLAIRE TWEEDY joined with her best friend and others to form the student group Gang Prevention Association, in response to the senseless murder of her friend Matthew Johnson, to educate younger students about the dangers of gang involvement and to teach how to avoid gang recruitment; and

 

    WHEREAS, CLAIRE TWEEDY, through her involvement and community service with various organizations, has dedicated herself to making Redwood City a better place to live for all its residents;

 

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby honors and commends CLAIRE TWEEDY upon being named the 201I Sequoia Award “Outstanding Student,” and thanks her for continuing service to the community.
