    COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

    RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

    KAISER PERMANENTE

    ***************************************

    WHEREAS, KAISER PERMANENTE is the recipient of the 2011 Sequoia Award as an “Outstanding Business” for its long-term commitment to building a healthy community through volunteerism, health education programs, community support, and grants in the Redwood City area; and

 

    WHEREAS, KAISER PERMANENTE has collaborated with Operation Access to increase access to healthcare for the uninsured and underinsured populations by providing free outpatient surgeries and procedures; and has worked with the Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM) to provide pre-natal, delivery and post-partum services to 360 HPSM mothers; and

 

    WHEREAS, KAISER PERMANENTE has provided bilingual nutrition and health education information to thousands through participation in the North Fair Oaks Festival, on-site presence at the Farmer’s Markets, the Education Theatre Program’s Kids Course and at a variety of other community events; and

 

    WHEREAS, KAISER PERMANENTE’s employees further support the community by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, adopting families over the holidays, providing food and toy bins to support Second Harvest Food Bank, the St. Francis Center and San Mateo County Children’s Fund, maintaining a clothing closet for the homeless and collecting gently used baby items for donation; and

 

    WHEREAS, KAISER PERMANENTE has been a sponsor of various local events, including the John F. Kennedy Middle School’s Annual Holiday Giving Tree, and has been participating in Redwood City’s Annual Hometown Holidays Parade since 2007;

 

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby honors and commends KAISER PERMANENTE upon being named the 2011 Sequoia Award “Outstanding Business,” and thanks Kaiser Permanente for its continuing service to the community and commitment to building a healthy Redwood City.
