SUBJECT:

Amendment to the Agreement with J. Muir Hooper, M.D.

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an Amendment to the Agreement with J. Muir Hooper, M.D. for the provision of psychiatry services increasing the maximum obligation by $35,000 to a new maximum of $146,871, with no change to the Agreement term of July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011.

BACKGROUND:

On June 29, 2010, your Board approved an Agreement with J. Muir Hooper, M.D. to provide psychiatry services which include child and youth medication evaluation and treatment, diagnostic evaluation, psychotherapy, family consultation, treatment plan review, and case consultation.

DISCUSSION:

The need for services provided by this Contractor is greater than anticipated when the original Agreement was completed. Dr. Hooper has agreed to work additional hours in order to provide necessary coverage for an employee who is out on extended leave. It is recommended that this Agreement be amended to increase the maximum obligation by $35,000, with no change to the term.

The Amendment and Resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel.

The Contractor has assured compliance with the County's Contractor Employee Jury Service Ordinance, as well as all other contract provisions that are required by County ordinance and administrative memoranda, including but not limited to insurance, hold harmless, non-discrimination and equal benefits.

The Amendment to the Agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing psychiatry services. Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) provides a range of services to children and youth clients of BHRS. The provision of psychiatry services is one established level of care. The services provided through this Amendment contribute to this measure. It is anticipated that 77% of clients who receive services through this Amendment shall rate services as good or better.
