COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING APRIL 2011 AS

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS, April is annually recognized as CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH throughout the United States including the State of California; and

WHEREAS, every child in San Mateo County is precious and deserves to grow up in a healthy, safe, nurturing environment, free from the threats, dangers, and harmful effects of child abuse and neglect; and

WHEREAS, the Bill of Rights for Children and Youth of San Mateo County, duly adopted by this Board, resolves to invest in all children and youth so that they develop a healthy attachment to a parent, guardian, or caregiver, and an ongoing relationship with a caring and supportive adult and further, so that they have freedom from mistreatment, abuse and neglect; and

WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention programs succeed because of partnerships created among social services agencies, schools, faith communities, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business community; and

WHEREAS, all members of the community should become involved in supporting families to provide safe, nurturing environments for their children, giving them the opportunity to grow up to be caring, contributing members of the community;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby proclaim APRIL 2011 as CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AWARENESS MONTH.
