**********************************

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, engaging in incidental forms of exercise, such as conducting an errand on foot or by bicycle instead of driving, has been demonstrated to improve a person’s health and well-being; and

WHEREAS, providing safe venues that encourage walking and bicycling as alternatives to the automobile encourages incidental exercise, promotes good health, and helps build attractive, healthy, and economically vibrant communities; and

WHEREAS, by temporarily closing streets to automobiles, communities may instantly create park space out of existing infrastructure at little cost, thereby promoting good health and creating vibrant public spaces; and

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo will once again join cities throughout the County to demonstrate a mutual commitment to providing healthy public spaces by holding its 2nd Annual Streets Alive event on May 1, 2011.
