RESOLUTION APPOINTING SUPERVISORS ADRIENNE TISSIER AND ROSE JACOBS GIBSON TO A BOARD AD HOC COMMITTEE FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECOMMENDING ADJUSTMENTS TO SUPERVISORIAL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the California Elections Code requires the Board of Supervisors to, following each decennial federal census, and using that census as a basis, adjust the boundaries of any or all of the supervisorial districts of the county so that the districts shall be as nearly equal in population as may be and shall comply with the applicable provisions of Section 1973 of Title 42 of the United States Code, as amended; and

WHEREAS, federal census data from the 2010 Census will soon be available for the purpose of adjusting supervisorial district boundaries; and

WHEREAS, a redistricting plan is done by the adoption of an ordinance after the Board has held at least one public hearing on any proposal; and

WHEREAS, an ad hoc committee composed of Supervisors can engage in a process that allows for public input throughout the County; and

WHEREAS, formation of a Board ad hoc committee would be beneficial to the process of developing a redistricting plan for the full Board’s consideration.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors appoints Supervisor Adrienne Tissier and Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson to a Board ad hoc committee for the purpose of recommending adjustments to supervisorial district boundaries.
