RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

MILLS-PENINSULA HEALTH SERVICES

UPON THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW MILLS-PENINSULA MEDICAL CENTER

WHEREAS, on April 9, 2011, a ceremonial pre-opening ribbon cutting celebrates the close of a 17-year process of developing plans and constructing the newly renovated and seismically secure Mills-Peninsula Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, in August 2006, Peninsula Healthcare District voters unanimously approved a new 50-year land lease that called for Mills-Peninsula Health Services to develop a $618 million, state-of-the-art hospital to replace Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, which Mills-Peninsula would own and operate; and

WHEREAS, Mills-Peninsula committed to funding the new hospital without tax support and on November 1, 2006, broke ground; and

WHEREAS, the new hospital employs an advanced engineering technology called Base Isolation that provides the highest level of seismic safety and allows the building to withstand an 8.5 earthquake in Burlingame and remain functional; and

WHEREAS, the new hospital increases the capacity of the Emergency Department by 42% to accommodate 50,000 visits per year, has state-of-the-art lift technology in every room, is equipped to provide trauma care and is technology-ready with electronic patient charting and internet-based capabilities for advanced patient/physician communication; and

WHEREAS, Mills-Peninsula has maintained a high level of service throughout the construction process and continues to ensure patients receive high quality care during the transition, and has worked closely with the community during the construction process;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby honors and commends MILLS-PENINSULA HEALTH SERVICES upon the construction of the new Mills-Peninsula Medical Center.
