Appointments to the Commission on the Status of Women

RECOMMENDATION:

Appoint Manufou Liaiga-Anoa'i; Clarissa Ocampo; Becky Abens; and Solmaz Rafiee-Tari to the San Mateo County Commission on the Status of Women.

BACKGROUND:

The Commission on the Status of Women currently has several vacancies on its 17-member board. Three of the recommended appointees would each be fulfilling partial terms (detailed below) created by recent departures; one recommended appointee would be for a full, four-year term.

DISCUSSION:

Solmaz Rafiee-Tari of Foster City is a staff attorney with Bay Area Legal Aid.

If approved, Ms. Rafiee-Tari’s appointment is for a full, four-year term expiring

Dec. 31, 2014.

Clarissa Ocampo of San Mateo is the main community- and government-relations contact for ABS-CBN, a Philippine-based multimedia and broadcasting company.

If appointed, Ms. Ocampo will complete the term of Sapna Singh, whose term expires

Dec. 31, 2012.

Manufou Liaiga-Anoa'i of Daly City is the program manager for Mission District Re-Entry Center, a nonprofit in San Francisco. If appointed, Ms. Liaiga-Anoa'i will complete the term of Marion Mann, whose term expires Dec. 31, 2012.

Becky Abens of Brisbane is a compliance specialist with Genentech. If appointed, she will complete the term of Lynn Forrest, whose term expires Dec. 31, 2013.

Each would be a great addition to the Commission on the Status of Women.
