PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING MAY 15, 2011 TO MAY 21, 2011 AS

 

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

   
 

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS) system is a vital public service to the community as a whole that contributes positively to our quality of life; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES system is an award-winning system comprised of dedicated first responders who give tirelessly of themselves to provide lifesaving care to others twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES system excels in providing quick, immediate emergency care to those in need which dramatically improves their survival and recovery rate from sudden illness or injury; and

 
 

WHEREAS, the theme for this year’s EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK is “EMS: Everyday Heroes” which is fitting for a system that saves countless lives on an annual basis from tragic events like the San Bruno explosion to routine calls like sudden cardiac arrest or stroke; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the San Mateo county EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES system’s everyday heroes consist of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, dispatchers, educators, administrators and many others; and

   
 

WHEREAS, it seems only fitting that this Board designates a week recognizing the great accomplishments and achievements of our very own EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES everyday heroes during EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County hereby designates May 15 – May 21, 2011 as EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK and extends its utmost appreciation to each and every member of the EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES system for dedicating their lives towards saving the lives of others.
