COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAMATION HONORING AND COMMENDING MAY 2011 AS

 
VETERANS’ APPRECIATION MONTH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

   
 

WHEREAS, the freedom and security that citizens of the United States enjoy today are direct results of the sacrifice and continued vigilance given by the United States Armed Forces over the history of our great nation; while at the same time, the commitment of the United States Armed Forces, and of the family members that support them, have preserved the liberties that have enriched this nation; and

   
 

WHEREAS, special recognition is paid to the sacrifice made by our wounded and disabled VETERANS by acknowledging and honoring their hard work and courage in regaining health and strength; and, having concern for some VETERANS who have encountered obstacles in readjusting to civilian life, many of them disabled, who represent a significant share of San Mateo County’s homeless population; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the Human Services Agency’s County VETERANS Service staff, in conjunction with Workforce Development and the Center on Homelessness staffs are committed to ensuring that VETERANS receive all the services and programs to which they are entitled and achieve self-sufficiency because VETERANS possess a wide variety of valuable job qualifications and skills, including experience, maturity, leadership, and loyalty, that make them ideal candidates for employment; and

 
 

WHEREAS, the people of San Mateo County have great appreciation and admiration for the many local men and women who have served the country in the armed forces in order to protect and preserve the freedoms enjoyed by our community and by all Americans; and

   
 

WHEREAS, as designated by Congress, VETERANS’ APPRECIATION MONTH during the month of May includes Loyalty Day, Victory in Europe Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors hereby designates May 2011 as VETERANS’ APPRECIATION MONTH in San Mateo County, to show sincere gratitude for our military VETERANS.
