THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS,

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

DESIGNATES MAY, 2011, AS

FOSTER CARE MONTH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Whereas, in San Mateo County there are approximately 300 children and teens in foster care being provided a safe, secure, and stable home along with the compassion and the nurture of a foster family; and

 

Whereas, all young people in foster care need a meaningful connection to a caring adult who becomes a supportive and lasting presence in their lives; and

 

Whereas, the family is the very foundation of our communities and our State, serving as a primary source of love, identity, and self-esteem; and

 

Whereas, foster, kinship and adoptive families, who open their homes and hearts and support children whose families are in crisis, play a vital role in helping children and families heal and reconnect, thereby launching young people into successful adulthood; and

 

Whereas, there remains a great and continuous need for capable and compassionate foster parents and adults interested in helping sibling groups and teenagers experience a stable home.

   

Whereas, the County of San Mateo encourages residents to volunteer their talents and energies on behalf of foster children, foster parents, and the professional staff working with them this month and throughout the year.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates May 2011, as Foster Care Month.
