COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

DESIGNATES THE WEEK OF MAY 15, 2011 – MAY 21, 2011 AS

P0LICE WEEK

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the week of May 15th has been National Police Week, since President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 on October 1, 1962; and

   

WHEREAS, National Police Week pays special tribute to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others; and

   

WHEREAS, the police officers in San Mateo County have worked devotedly to safeguard life and property, by protecting residents against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against deception and the vulnerable against oppression; and

   

WHEREAS, it is important that all residents know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of the men and women of law enforcement, who provide a vital public service to the community, regardless of the peril or hazard to themselves; and

   

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that we express our gratitude for the dedicated service and courageous deeds of law enforcement officers and for the contributions they have made to the security and well-being of all our communities; and

   

WHEREAS, police officers in San Mateo County who have laid down their lives for us deserve not only our respect, but our heartfelt gratitude and affection.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo designates the week of May 15, 2011 to May 21, 2011 as Police Week to honor the service and sacrifice of San Mateo County’s police officers.
