RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING

Omar Ahmad

For

A Lifetime of Service

WHEREAS, OMAR AHMAD passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the age of 46; and

   

WHEREAS, he was born in 1964, in Ohio, to Doctor Iftikhar and Nadira Ahmad who emigrated from Pakistan, OMAR AHMAD was raised with his sisters Fataima and Leah in Florida and graduated from the University of Florida in materials science and engineering ; and

   

WHEREAS, OMAR AHMAD became a well-known entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, involved in the startup of several companies including the Discovery Channel, @Home Networks, Netscape and most recently SynCH Energy Corporation; and

   

WHEREAS, OMAR AHMAD was elected to San Carlos City Council in 2007, having served on the Economic Development Advisory Commission, was selected as San Carlos’ mayor in November 2010, serving as only one of two Muslim mayors in California, and served on many boards and committees including the Belmont-San Carlos Fire Commission, C/CAG Airport Land Use Committee, Caltrain Board of Directors, San Mateo County Council of Cities, San Carlos Green and SamTrans Board of Directors; and

   

WHEREAS, OMAR AHMAD took great pleasure in his life, as a lifelong Gators fan, a storyteller, an avid pilot, a mountaineer, a photographer, a lover of fine cigars and gaudy cowboy boots.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County extends its condolences to OMAR AHMAD’s family and joins his family, friends, and colleagues in recognizing his contributions to our community and celebrating his life.
