THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING APRIL 30, 2011 AS

MORMON HELPING HANDS DAY

WHEREAS, volunteers are essential to the well-being of our community, state and nation and should be fostered, encouraged and appreciated by all communities; and

WHEREAS, volunteers are among the heroes who beautify parks, schools and important facilities, serve the underserved, provide assistance in times of need, and fill many important functions within our community; and

WHEREAS, Mormon Helping Hands is a significant international volunteer program sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to provide community service and disaster relief throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, since its establishment in 1998, hundreds of thousands of Mormon Helping Hands volunteers have donated millions of hours of service to their communities; and

WHEREAS, Mormon Helping Hands has designated April 30, 2011 as a day of community service throughout the State of California in which over 45,000 Californians will provide service to renew parks, schools and other facilities, including residents of San Mateo County, who will trim trees, remove tree stumps, clear foreign plans and pick up trash to enhance the beauty of our county;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby designate April 30, 2011 as MORMON HELPING HANDS DAY and encourages efforts by its residents, service clubs, faith-based organizations, and others to promote volunteer service.
