THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING MAY 20^th-29^th, 2011 AS

NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK

WHEREAS, on average, 700 people die each year in boating-related accidents in the United States; and

WHEREAS, nearly deaths 70% of boating-related are fatalities caused by drowning and a significant number of these boaters would be alive today had they worn life jackets; and

WHEREAS, in 2010, the members of Flotilla 15 of San Mateo County volunteered 9,889 hours in educating the boating public and in U.S. Coast Guard mission support; and

WHEREAS, Flotilla 15 of San Mateo County will continue its efforts to educate the boating public by offering boating classes and free vessel examinations, promote safe boating and encourage the wearing of life jackets; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby designate May 20^th-29^th, 2011 as NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK and urges all users of all inland lakes, rivers, San Francisco Bay and coastal waters area to safeguard their lives by wearing life jackets when boating, attend a safe boating course, exercise safe boating practices and adopt the slogan of “Wear it.”
