SUBJECT:
Increasing the membership on the Commission on the Status of Women
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt resolution increasing the membership of the Commission on the Status of Women.
BACKGROUND:
In 1984, the Board created the Commission on the Status of Women to provide leadership to develop policies, programs and legislation that address the needs of women, girls and families.
DISCUSSION:
The membership on this Commission has fluctuate based upon the needs of the Commission. In 2002, the Board set membership at 17 adults and 2 youth Commissioners. It has come to our attention that it would be in the best interest of the Commission if the adult membership on the Commission is increased to 19 adults, making the total Commission membership to be 21 members.
Adopting this resolution increasing the membership on the Commission on the Status of Women contributes to Shared Vision 2025 of a Collaborative Community by expanding the opportunity for residents to participate and be informed and engaged.
