RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

The

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HIGH SCHOOL

MARCHING BAND

for performing at the

National Independence Day Parade

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the South San Francisco High School Marching Band performed at the annual National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C., which consisted of floats, military units, equestrian teams, national dignitaries and celebrity participants and had an audience of hundreds of thousands of spectators; and

   

WHEREAS, National Independence Day Parade marching bands are selected on the basis of overall quality, as well as geographical, ethnic and stylistic diversity; and

WHEREAS, the South San Francisco High School Marching Band was nominated by Congresswoman Jackie Speier, and was the only public high school from California at the parade, out of a total of 20 schools, and it was the first time the band had participated in the event; and

   

WHEREAS, in addition to playing “America the Glorious” during the parade, the jazz band performed at a retirement community for military officers and the symphonic band held a concert at the World War II Memorial.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on July 8, 2011, hereby commends the South San Francisco High School Marching Band for representing our community for performing at the National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C.
