RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

THE NIKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

on the dedication of

SITE SF-51 OF THE MISSILE AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the NIKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY is an association of veterans and other interested persons who want to record and make known the history and purpose of the Nike Missile Air Defense system; and

WHEREAS, Project Nike was a United States Army project to develop a line-of-sight anti-aircraft missile system and in 1953 was the United States' first operational anti-aircraft missile system, with sites constructed in a circular pattern around key American industrial and military locations.; and

WHEREAS, the Nike Missile Air Defense System Site SF-51 is located on Milagra Ridge in Pacifica, California, and signs dedicated to explaining the area’s role in American history will be placed there.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on August 13, 2011, hereby commends the NIKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY on the dedication of Site SF-51 of the Nike Missile Air Defense System.
