THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

 

MZ. SHIRLIZ TRANSITIONAL LIVING

Upon the Celebration of the Open House of The Centre’

WHEREAS, the goal of MZ. SHIRLIZ TRANSITIONAL LIVING is to help keep people stable and focused on sobriety and clean healthy lifestyles; and

   
 

WHEREAS, MZ. SHIRLIZ TRANSITIONAL LIVING has been the inspirational dream and, now, reality of Shirley Lamarr, the founding director of the program and multipurpose center that has established a model of transitional living that provides a continuum of care for people who need extra support and help in maintaining their sobriety; and

   
 

WHEREAS, MZ. SHIRLIZ TRANSITIONAL LIVING program has been modeled after the Delancey Street Foundation, the very successful rehabilitation program of which Shirley Lamarr is a graduate and over 20 year alumna; and

 

 

WHEREAS, MZ. SHIRLIZ TRANSITIONAL LIVING acts as the much needed strong link between the accomplished Choices Program taught in the San Mateo County men’s and women’s correctional facilities (of which Shirley Lamarr has been a driving force for the last 18 years) and the beginning of a new life in a “Sober Living Environment” on the outside; and

   
 

WHEREAS, MZ. SHIRLIZ TRANSITIONAL LIVING offers interpersonal support groups, job resources and training, GED training, dress for success workshops, as well as an emergency hotline for crisis situations; and

   
 

WHEREAS, MZ. SHIRLIZ TRANSITIONAL LIVING became a 501 (c)(3) non-profit in November of 2009 and for the past two years has been very educational in bringing to light the need for assistance with reentry from the correctional facilities to our communities,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends MZ. SHIRLIZ TRANITIONAL LIVING and Shirley Lamarr for leadership, dedication and commitment in the areas of rehabilitation and sobriety in San Mateo County and extends wishes of ongoing success in the years ahead.
