Upon His Retirement from HIP Housing

WHEREAS, BRUCE HAMILTON began his long career dedicated to public service and improving the lives of his fellow human beings as a volunteer with the Peace Corps in Ethiopia for two years starting in 1964; and |
WHEREAS, BRUCE HAMILTON channeled his passion for democracy, law and equality into a strong and extensive thirty-year legal career, which included the roles of Lancaster County Supervisor, Executive Director of Legal Services in Lincoln, Nebraska, Executive Director of the State Bar Association in Arizona, partner in a private law firm and as Executive Director of the Alliance on Aging in Monterey County; and |
WHEREAS, BRUCE HAMILTON joined HIP Housing in 2003 as Executive Director and, in this role, has served on various committees and boards that work to provide affordable housing in San Mateo County, including the Housing Leadership Council, serving as Chairman of Thrive: The Alliance for Nonprofits, and serving on the Legislative Committee for the Housing Endowment and Regional Trust (HEART); and |

WHEREAS, BRUCE HAMILTON, as Executive Director, has increased HIP Housing’s capacity for serving clients and expanded his own role from leading the organization to leading the county in housing, homelessness and self-sufficiency policy; and |
WHEREAS, BRUCE HAMILTON has been an advocate for families working towards self-sufficiency, a leader in housing policy and a champion of democracy throughout his career and, most recently, in San Mateo County; |
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends BRUCE HAMILTON upon his retirement from HIP Housing and wishes sincere congratulations and best wishes for the future. |
