    SUBJECT:

    Appointments to the Commission on Aging

    RECOMMENDATIONS:

    Appoint Steven Cobb, Robin Crawford, Christina Kahn, Soledad Manaay, Cherie Moreno, Lynn Nieberding and Francine Serafin-Dickson to the San Mateo County Commission on Aging.

    Remove Commissioner Nathaniel E. Fripp, who no longer resides in San Mateo County. Mr. Fripp was originally appointed in April 2010 to a term expiring June 30, 2013.

 

    BACKGROUND:

    The 21-member San Mateo County Commission on Aging currently has five vacancies, plus two additional vacancies created by a retirement and a change-of-residency. If appointed, five would serve full terms expiring June 30, 2014; Mr. Cobb and Mr. Crawford would each serve partial terms, expiring June 30, 2012, and June 30, 2013, respectively.

 

    DISCUSSION:

    Steven Cobb of South San Francisco is a retired airline mechanic, with significant community involvement and volunteer activities. If appointed, Mr. Cobb would serve a partial term expiring June 30, 2012.

    Robin Crawford of Pacifica is a practicing lawyer specializing in wills and estates. He is a former Presbyterian minister. If appointed, Mr. Crawford would serve a partial term expiring June 30, 2013.

    Christina Kahn of Redwood City is the community outreach coordinator for HICAP of San Mateo County. If appointed, Ms. Kahn would serve a full term, expiring June 30, 2014.

    Soledad Manaay of Redwood City is the founder and CEO of a company providing care for Alzheimer patients. She also has extensive experience in the management of senior-care facilities. If appointed, Ms. Manaay would serve a full term, expiring June 30, 2014.

    Cherie Moreno of Daly City is the editor-at-large of the Philippine News, an English-language weekly newspaper serving a regional Filipino-American population. If appointed, Ms. Moreno would serve a full term, expiring June 30, 2014.

    Lynn Nieberding of Foster City is a retired legal secretary, with extensive volunteer experience in the overall Peninsula community, including Coyote Point Museum and Community Gatepath. If appointed, Ms. Nieberding would serve a full term, expiring June 30, 2014.

    Francine Serafin-Dickson of San Mateo is executive director of the San Mateo County Hospital Consortium. If appointed, Ms. Serafin-Dickson would serve a full term, expiring June 30, 2014.

    They would make great additions to the Commission on Aging.
