    COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

    RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING THE

    COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO

    Upon the Ribbon Cutting of the Athletic Hall of Fame

    WHEREAS, the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO is a premier higher learning institution in San Mateo County, serving approximately 11,000 students daily with outstanding academics and athletic programs; and

    WHEREAS, the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO will honor nine decades of its strong athletic legacy with the dedication of the Athletic Hall of Fame and induction of sixteen former athletes and coaches into the Hall of Fame on September 23, 2011; and

    WHEREAS, the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO will honor the sixteen inductees with their names enshrined on granite and bronze pillars permanently on display in Athletic Hall of Fame Plaza; and

    WHEREAS, the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO’s inaugural class of inductees includes former football players Bill Walsh, John Madden, Bill Ring and Neal Dahlen; football coaches Murius McFadden, Herb Hudson, Bill Dickey, Ted Tollner and Tom Martinez; and Olympic track gold medalist Archie Williams, Olympic javelin thrower Nicole Carroll-Lewis, softball star Jenny Freeman, men’s basketball coach Jack Avina, men’s basketball and golf coach Ray Balsley, basketball coach John Noce and track and field coach Bob Rush;

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO upon the ribbon cutting of the Athletic Hall of Fame and for providing excellent athletic programs for the residents of San Mateo County. The Board congratulates the College of San Mateo on this achievement.
