Energy Efficiency Climate Action Plan
The County of San Mateo is undertaking an important effort to address energy efficiency and climate change. The Couty is creating an Energy Efficiency Climate Action Plan (EECAP). The EECAP will build on a stand-alone Energy Reduction Strategy and Adaptation Plan. As part of this effort, the County is updating the General Plan and Zoning Code to implement the targets of the EECAP. The General Plan update will include creation of a new Energy and Climate Change Element. All implementation items will contain policies and programs that are designed to help the County sustain its natural resources, grow efficiently, ensure long-term resiliency to climate change, and meet state recommendations for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions.
The County is implementing a multi-pronged outreach strategy to gather public input on all parts of the project. The County will also prepare an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for the EECAP, General Plan update, and implementation items, which will disclose any potential environmental impacts of the policies included in the documents and mitigate those impacts to the extent feasible.
