Women's Hall of Fame

The Women’s Hall of Fame pays tribute to extraordinarily dedicated women who have left an indelible imprint on the history of San Mateo County and in some cases, our state and our nation, as well.

Picture of President  Welcome to the Commission website!

The Commission on the Status of Women of San Mateo County is a non-partisan appointed body that advises the County Board of Supervisors. Established by the Board of Supervisors in 1982, we provide leadership in developing policies, programs and legislation that address the needs of women, girls and families.

The Commission is made up of 15 adults and 2 youth who come from diverse professional and personal backgrounds, who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of women and girls in this County. We also strive to involve the community to help broaden resources and opportunities for women, to identify and remedy gender discrimination, and also to honor the achievements of San Mateo County women. Our annual Women's Hall of Fame and Young Women of Excellence Awards are a testament that women and girls make a tremendous difference in our communities.

Some of the Commission's current projects include: organizing a clothing drive for women's work attire in collaboration with the Career Closet; arranging What DO Women Want? Speak Up! discussions with groups of women around the County; providing support and advocacy for women in the CHOICES Program at the Women's Correctional Center; planning the 2010 Women's Hall of Fame; and collaborating with the San Mateo County Chapter of California Women Lead to encourage the development of women as political leaders.

We cannot do this work alone! We need your help and we need your voice!   We encourage your attendance at Commission meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday of most months, 6:30 PM at the San Mateo County Health Department - 225 W. 37th Avenue, San Mateo, CA in conference room 100.

Please take a look at the meeting schedule in the Meetings section of this website for details.
