Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) is a public agency whose purpose is to assist people in attaining their maximum potential within a work environment through counseling, work experience, education and vocational testing. How do I know if I'm eligible for services or not?
A. To be eligible for services you must:
Be legally eligible to work in the United States (per Immigration and Naturalization requirements);
Reside in San Mateo County;
Have the desire to work or explore your readiness to reach your maximum vocational potential;
Be referred by a San Mateo County Mental Health treatment professional, State Department of Rehabilitation Counselor, Human Services Agency staff or some other sponsoring agency.
What VRS services are available?
A. VRS services include:
Individual and group vocational counseling
Situational Assessment, Work Adjustment, Work Services (experience)
Alcohol and Drug assessment
Referral for skills training/academic advancement
Supported education referral
Benefits counseling (Social Security work incentives)
Job Placement assistance
Referral to Cooperative Program with State Department of Rehabilitation for additional services
Job search groups
PeninsulaWorks workshops and Network Center (a jobs search center)
Assessment lab (vocational testing)
Supportive services and job coaching following job placement
